Abate

  • slake: make less active or intense
  • become less in amount or intensity; "The storm abated"; "The rain let up after a few hours"
  • Injunction has been received by the courts. Property is out of compliance
  • Abate and abatement have several uses. In a lawsuit, an abatement is a court order to terminate the suit, either because the plaintiff dropped the suit, or one of the parties died, or the defendant moved out of the court’s jurisdiction. When applied to a bequest or a judgment, it normally means that assets were insufficient to cover the amount, and the amount due was reduced. In general, it means that something was terminated or lessened.
  • In stone carving or sand blasting clay masonry, to cut away material, leaving parts in relief.
  • to lessen, do away with, or nullify as in the case of pollution; to quash, beat down, or destroy, as in the case of a nuisance.
  • to diminish in intensity, violence, amount, etc.
